THE WAIPUKURAU RACES.

These races took place on Thursday and Friday last, ou the land of Purvis Russell, Esq., and the course was an excellent one in all respects. The attendance was not so large as was expected. Although, according to advertisement, only one day's programme was announced, the Hurdle Race and Consolation Stakes were postponed so as to make two days’ amusement, which appear', to have been anything but satisfactory to the spectators. After some delay, .a start was effected for THE MAIDEN PRODUCE STAKES. Of £2 2s. each, with £2O added. For all horses foaled in the Colony, that have never won an advertized race. Satan took the lead in the second heat, Lusifer keeping close up to him, and this position was well kept until the winning post was passed. A dispute now ensued. Moue, who rode Lucifer, declared he had been jostled during the race. The stewards could not agree, and upon referring to the judge, he recommended that another heat should be run to decide the matter, which was ultimately agreed to, Lucifer winning easily.
