SALE OF MERINO SHEEP THE PEOPEKTY OF G. UICH, ESQ

This well-known flock was disposed of by public auction, on Thursday and Triday, the 31st October and Ist November last.

The imported sheep were submitted singly ; the rams in pens containing from 4to 21 each, and

the ewes In pens of 3 each. Thirty-sis imported pure bred Spanish realised

£93u. The purchasers in this class were Messrs. Wilkin, of Avon Hank. Stud holme brothers, F. D. Ttich, Clough & Co., Melbourne, Goldney Brothers, and Mrs. O’Connell, of Mount Gaey. Twa of those ewes, purchased by Mr. P. D. Rich, attained the price of £SO each, on tho fall of the hammer. Six imported French ewes were eagerly sought for, and the competition in each ease was spirited. They realised the sum of £217, and the hammer fell to the bidding of Messrs. Clough & Co., Goldney Brothers, E. Wilkin and P. D. Rich, who purchases for his Otago country. A large advance on tho price (£55) given by Messrs. Clough & Co., for one of these, ewes, was offered to their agent after tho sale, but of course declined. Four hoggets, out of Spanish ewes by French rams, realized tho sum of £73, and join the flocks of Messrs. E. Wilkin, Studholme Brothers, and F. D. Rich. Four ewes, by imported Spanish ram out of French owes, realized £l2l and were purchased by Messrs. Goldnoy Brothers, Harman and Wilkin. Three ewes, of mixed French and Spanish blood were knocked down to Mr. R. Wilkin and Mrs. O’Connell, for the sum of £59. hive ewes and three lambs, of the Mount Eden and Spanish flock, fell to the bidding of Messrs. Goldnoy Brothers, for tho sum of £lO5. Fortyfive dry ewes, of the same flock, were bought by the same purchasers for (!j,e sum of £315. Thirty-four pens, containing one hundred and seventy-three ewes and lambs of the Mount Eden flock realized £I3GS, and were purchased by Messrs J. and S. Beale',», Goldnoy Brothers, R. V, ilkin, £ Chapman, and Mrs. O’Connell. Twelve guineas per head was tho highest price for any one pen of this lot. One hundred and fifty ewes of this flock have been sold to Mr. F. I). Rich, and will uccompany his other purchases to Otago. About 100 ewes of Hie Shakespeare breed arc still on hand, and will bo placed in the charge of dir. F. I). Rich in Otago, with the (wo rams bought in by Mr. G. Rich for the sum of £SOO, on Ids own account’ an ofler ot £7 10s. having been refused for them. The ram flock was more spiritedly competed for than the ewes, and the prices obtained were better. Two imported pure-bred Spanish rams, each of which had taken first-class prizes in Germany, were bought in by Mr, G. Eieli for the sum of £GOO. A pure bred Spanish Merino ram, imported, was purchased for M essrs. Clougli A Co., of Melbourne, for tlie sum of £l5O. A lot of five Shakespeare rains wore spiritedly competed for, and were knocked down to Mr. F. D. Rich for the sum of £IOO. Two pens, eonlaining twelve each, of ram lambs, by the Shakespeare rams just mentioned, were purchased by Messrs. Goldnoy, brothers, ami J. S. Caverhill. V. e are given to understand that Mr. Caverhill purchases for his Motunau run. These lots fetched £l5O. Twenty-eight pens, containing 219 rams, from two to four tooth, a portion of which were by the Spanish merino ram out of tho Mount Eden Saxon merino ewes, were sold at various prices, ranging from £5 to £IQ 10s. per head, and realized £llOB 11s. Tho purchasers of these lots were ; dlcssrs. Caverhill, nine pens ; T. W. Trolove, of Nelson, six pens ; E. Mailt, of Double Corner, three pens Goldnoy Brothers, three pens; Hill, two pens; and Studholme, Bealey, Burke, Mcllwraith, and J onkins, each one pen. A pen of throe ram lambs and one ewe lamb were purchased for Mrs. O’Connell, for the sum of £S Ss. per head. The twelve rams sold singly fetched £279, and were secured by Messrs. Clough and Co., Trolove, Harman, Studholme Brothers, Creykc, F. D. Eich, Wilkin, and Mrs. O’Connell. Several ewe lambs wore sold in addition to (he lots above mentioned, and realized average prices. The average price for yearling ewes by the Spanish merino rum above alluded to as going with the unsold flock to Otago, was £2l. Mr. F. D. Eich takes the German brand with his flock toMocraki, Otago.
