CORRESPONDENCE.
To il>e TSailor of the Hawke's Say Timas.
S)'{, —In youv issue of the 3rd instant, there appears a letter signed Thomas Shirley, tiyin to impu ni uiy evidence, as also that of Mr. Parker, Mr. Alley, and Mr. Chase. My evidence is on record, and can speak for itself. I did not say that I had had Mr. Parkers heifer in charge since she was a calf. The cases against him were too clear and distinct to admit of a donht. Let Thomas Shirley have more respect for other people’s property ; the public may then believe that he has some regard for truth. Mr. S. wants to make people believe that he has suffered from injuries at the hands of some party or parlies, and mentions a bull of Ir's having been cut. Now, sir, I am a large breeder of cattle, an admirer of fare stock, and at great expense and trouble to obtain a good breed, and I say that whoever cut his “fine” bull, as be calls it, conferred a benefit on breeders in general. ‘Whatever other injuries be is suffering from arc inflicted by himself. The full extent of injuries .that he has done to others is not known, but
quite sufficient to have handed over T. S. to the mercy of Mr. Justice Johnston; A xnerc.'Cul consideration for his family alone deterred the injured parties from doing so. This Thomas Shirley knows as well as Your obedient servant, John Heslop. Pukeiapu, 9th Oct., 1861.
