Passengers (cabin) —Messrs. M’Master, Hicks, Bates Milne, M’Nalty, M'Millau, Forester, Blain : (steerage,)—Messrs. Sharp, Whitton, Jessie, Right, Farmer, Clarke, Jones, Smith, Whitaker, Dr. Nisbit, Mr. & Mrs. M’Conichy. The Otago Gold Fields have created quite a sensation in the minds of Australian diggers. At Sydney and at Melbourne, numerous steamers and sailing craft bad been laid an or were spoken of. From Sydney the brig Burnett had. already sailed, and the brigantine Comet, ketch Flying Squirrel, and barque City of Melbourne were on the berth whilst the steam ship Bangitiia M ould be laid on if sufficient inducement offered. At Melbourne, the Arabia, 993 tons, and Bessie, 252 tons, entered outwards for Otago on the 14tb Angst. The Oscar, steamer, was announced to sail on the 2nth August, and tho Omeo, steamer at an early date. The first took her departure at the appointed date with 230 passengers on board. The Pirate, steame, one of the Melbourne and Otago line, was aiso on the berth, together with the Fair Tasmanian, schooner, Content, hrig, Bella Vista, harque, Anna Kemble, and another ship, not named. The brig Montezuma, Captain Mclntyre, from Wangaroa, the sth ult., with a cargo of kauri timber, arrived at Sydney on the 20th; and the barque City of Melbourne, Captain Brown, hence July 3oth, arrived at Sydney on the 16th August. The steamer Corio has been added to the fleet laid on at Sydney for the Otago Gold Fields. The Inter-Colonial Company’s steamer Lord Ashley was advertised to sail for OI ago direct on the 2nd Inst. The Melbourne teleg am reports he rush to New Zealand to have slightly abated.
