Expensive Meals.
Before arrangements were tmaliy completed to turn the Albergo Danieli, the famous Venice hotel, into the New Zealand Forces Club, the civilian dining-room and restaurant were still in use, states the N.Z.E.F. T|mes. An average meal cost 700 lire (£1 15/sterling), and the cheapest of wines were 12/6 a bottle. In the check-up before the club took over it was discovered that numerous New Zealand soldiers had dined frdquently and lavishly at the hotel and charged their expenses to the New Zealand Forces Club. When it was explained to the manager that the men had acted without authority, he announced his intention of debiting the not inconsiderable sum to the "liberation of Venice." St
