SIEGMUND AGAIN
Final Day's Form at Manawatu ROAMING IS GOOD CLASS (Special to Herald-Tribune.) PALMERSTON N., Last Night. Raeing was conducted under ldeal conditions on the final day of the Manawatu meeting, although the hard goipg may cripple some of the horses witfi bad joints and pr event them from revealing their true form at New Year meetings. Siegmund gave further evidence of his improving class when he led all the way to win the Liverpool Handieap. He is engaged in the Marton Cup, and even with a rehandicap looks a good prospect. Debham retired at the last furlong after trailing the winner, leaving Taillight and Catalogue to qhallenge Siegmund, but they could not make muen impression on him. Hunting Cat, who was sore, went a good race for luurth. Brazen King was in it at the last furlong, but faded out in the final finish. Laughing Lass beat the small sprint field in the Kawau Handieap. She led with Pakanui, who gave in half a furlong from the post. Master Cyklon and Lucullus Lad fought out a great duel the whole length of the straight in the Wood Handieap, Master Cyklon prevailing by hglf a head. It was a good performance on the part of the winner, who should do Well at Wairarapa. Lucullus Lad is another good prospect and will have support in the Wairarapa Cup. The other three rqpners were outclassed. The Bigot was beaten at the home turn. Umpire, who seldom runs a bad race, came from the back to win the Highweight going away. Round Score just beat Wananga for second after the latter had made the pace with Aube over the last half -mile. Roaming outclassed the field in the Apprentices' Handieap. He shot through to the lead at the distance and won easily. He is good class, but has been unreliable. Galteemore ran a good race, and Lickem was unlucky. He was badly left and was nearly half a furlong behmd the leaders at the flve-furlongs post. Lady Montana, Vadanoe and Mea Mea may soon improve, Rakahanga was flat out to beat Dissipation in the juvenile race and won narrowly. Dissipation's size is against her, but she may win a race in the muderate class at Tauherenikau. The placed horses began too smartly for Dunmanway. Cherry Plum is improving with raeing. Segra threw his rider before the start, incapapitating him. The horse was withdrawn, but the investments were not refunded, It was a fine piece of horsempnship on W. J. Broughton's part that got Nereus home in the Westbury Handieap. Alloa, Erebus and Silver River were fighting it out when Nereus was pushed through just short of the post and won by a neck going away from Alloa, with Erebus and Silver River almost in line. Cricket stolp a march on the field in the champion hack race to win easily bv four lengths. Malibu moved up in the final half -mile and just beat Maestro for second money. The latter showed vast improvement on his first day's form. Rockingham ran a good race after being last away. Mishna, who had lightened up, faded at the finish.
