AH-Round Increase Over Christmas Week

WELLINGTON, Last Night. Returns received from cluef post offices throughout the Dominion reveal an all-round increase in telegraphic business .during .Christmas week cornpared with * last year. The unde?mentioned figures indicate the increasels in the nnmber of telegrams lodged at chief offices during the period December 21 -to 24 inclusive: — All codes, including greetings: 1937, 250,330; 1936, 231,794; increase, 18.541, ov 8 per cent. Commercial telegrams: 1937, 86,530; 1936, 81,021; increase, 5514, or 6.8 per cent. Greetings telegrams: 1937. 163,800; 1936, 150,773; increase. 13,027, or 8,6 per cent. Compared with 1935 and 1934 the inereases in "all codes over those years were 48,584, or 24 per cent. ; an.d 90,689, or 56.8 per cent.
