DOUBLE WEDDING HELD AT HASTINGS

DOUTHETT— KITT St. Matthew's Church, Hastings, witt. lts lovely Christmas decorations vf scarlet and white, Was the scene of a pretty and somewhat unique wedding ceremony on Tuesday evening, when Gladys Lillian and Joyce Esther, daugbters of Mr ahd Mrs J". Kitt, of Hastings, were married, the former to Jack Wingfield Monks, son of Mr and Mrs W. E. Monks, of Palmerston North, and the latter to Edward Neilson Douthett, son of Mr and Mrs W. E: Douthett, j Lower Hutt. Canon Mortimer-Jones was the offieiating clergyman, and Mr C. B. Spinney played appropriate music during the service. During the signing of the register Mr W. A. Bryant sang Bacn's beautiful chorale, "Jesu, Jqy of Man's Desiring." The brides, who entered the churcn with their father, were gowned aiike . magnoiia satin, made on classicai irnes. slim fitting", with* long trains. Their veils were of silk embroidered . net. cdntined to the head with halo of orange blossoms. They both earried lovely arm-sheaves of Madonna lilhes; white gladioli. cream arum liiies anu roses. The first bride was attended by hei sister-in-law, Mrs S. Kitt, as mairoii-of-honour, and Misses May Herbison and Francis Poweli, who wore pniK, blue and green tatt'etas respectiveiy, with caps of silver lame and veils to match their frocks. They earried oouquets to tone with their trocks. Little Jacqueline Mason, mece of the oridegroom was also in attenaanee anu looked dainty in apricot taffetas with .my ppsy to tone. The second bride was attended by he» sister, Miss Louie Kitt, and Miss Dorothy Bryant, who were dressed alike in coral pink Swiss muslin long frocK. with sashes of velvet in a deeper tone, and wearing pink velvet and silver ha'.o nead- bands. They earried bouquets m shades of pink fo match their frocks. XWo little flower girls, Lois Kitt anti Margaret Clark, were daintily frocked in pale green floral silk voile, with horai heaabands and earried balls of matching flowers hanging from their arms by trails of green ribbon. Mr S. Smith assisted Mr Monks as best man, with Messrs W. Stevens and S. Kitt as groomsmen, while Messrs G. Clark and N. Sayers, of Wellington, acted as best man and groomsman to Mr Douthett. After the ceremony a reception was field in the Buffalo Hall, where the guests were received by Mr and Mrs Kitt, patents of the brides. Mrs Kitt wore a navy silk ensemble with navy straw hat, and earried a bouquet of red shaded carnations. Also present were Mr and Mrs Monks, and Mr and Mrs Douthett, parents of the respective bridegrooms, Mrs Monks wearing a smart black and white costume, with a bouquet of roses and gypsophelia, and Mrs Douthett an ensemble of wine silk with bouquet of gladiola and carnations. All the bouquets, earried for the ceremony had been made by a friend of the brides. The hall looked festive with decorations of streamers and flowers, and the well-laden tables had vases of colourf flowers. A handsome three-tier wed ding cake graced the brides' table. After the usual toasts and speeches, the tables were cleared and the rest oi the evening was devoted to dancing an* a very happy time was spent by ab present. Both couples were the recipients oi many beautiful presents. When leavini Mrs Monks wore as a going away coslume, navy blue with white peasanl blouse, with blue hat and accessories and Mrs Douthett a brown costume pmk smocked blouse and brown nai and accessories.
