Stud Sheep from N.Z. for South America VALUABLE CONSIGNMENT Next week one of the largest consignments of stud sheep, and undoubtedly one of tho most valuable to leave the Dominion, is* being sent to South. Apierica, These will be distributed to variaus countries after arrival at Montevideo, where they will be disembarked. Some aTe for Uruguay, which is steadily becoming a bigger customer for New Zealand pedigree sheep. The Argentine will as usual take a big proportion, and the sheepbreeding districts of Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego have also contributed to the orders, while quite a number of sheep are being shipped in fulfilment of orders from fresh customeTs. It is interesting to note that the larger proportion of the consignment go to large sheep-breeding companies in South America which have been Tegular customers for New Zealand stud sheep over a long period of years. The. greater proportion of the consignment compirses specially selected Corriedale sheep from North Canterbury and Otagq studs but, in addition, there is a consignment of prize-winning Lincoln rams from the Marlborough breeder, Mr W. M. Bishell, of Caythorpe, Blenheim. 'The twelve Corriedale stud nams selected from the Bushey Park stud at Palmerston South include several oneshear rams of outstanding merit, while the ram hoggets are probably tlio best developed iand most typical sheep of the breed that have gone from this extensive stud in recenfc years. Several special stud rams that have figured in tliis year's show competitions are also included, ! . Tht three conslgnments of stud ewe hoggets tofealling 52 head are also exceptional both for type and quality and are sure to prove a splendid advertisement for the Dominion's pedigree stock in South America. Amongst these ewes is a magnificent Jot of thirty which go to the famous Sociedjad Anonmia Ganadera Argentine ' 'Menendez Behety,', one of the biggest sheep-. breeding coneerns in South America and which has purchased in New Zealand some of the highest priced sheep ever exported, including flast year's Royal Champion, for which a record price was paid. The Estate H. T. Little, Hui Hui, Woodgrove, Norh Canterbury, has contributed 15 stud rams and five ewe hoggets. Amongst these is an outstanding one-shear ram of exceptional conformation and beautifully covered with an even fleece showing a beautiful crimp. This ram goes to one of the most . outstanding judges in South America. Another consignment from this famous old stud comprises seven outstanding ram hoggets. These are particularly even in type and wero selected with extreme care. They represent various families in the Hui Hui stud but, nevertheless, show great similarity in type. A special one-shear stud ram of firstclass show standard was also selected from the Rakahuri flock of Mr. Hugh Ensor, Nortli Canterbury. This ram is not only a shorfc-legged, good-carcased ram but is covered with a remarkably even fleece of high quality wool. The consignment of Corriedales was eompleted with five special ewe hoggets selected from Mr. W. W. McRae's flock, Waituna, Waikare, North Canterbury. These are very typical aiid and are also exceptionally even in their covering of high quality wool. They yare destined for Uruguay. The thrce Lincoln rams, bred by Mr. Bishell, -Marlborough, include two prizewinning ram hoggets and the outstanding Lincoln ram which was reserve champion at the recent Royal Show at Palmerston North and champion at the Marlborough and Canterbury Metropolitan Shows. The above shipment, comprising 93 head of stud sheep, is being shipped by Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., tlie carrying steamer to South America being the Cumberland.
