SPECTACULAR FETE

New Year Attraction lor Hastings The boast that there will be plenty of the spectacular at tthe gala fete to be held at Nelson Park to-morrow and Friday evening is made by those in charge of the arrangements of this big holiday event in Hastings. "We are out to provide new thrills, and, believo me, we have them arranged for," said Mr G. E. G, Bogers, organising secretary of the Hastings and District Progress League, who, in conjunctio" with the Hastings Citizens' Band, is arranging the fete. "We had a rehearsal of the two motor-cyclists careering through hoops of f ire and it gave us all a great thrill, ' ' he said. "It's going to be a great thing for the crowd. If they don't get a big thrill out of it, theu nothing will give it to them." There is another particularly spectacular stunt being arranged, and that is the special fire balloons. These have been imported and any doubts as to whether they would arrive in Hastings in tiine for the fete were set at rest this morning when they duly landed in Hastings. "These will provide soinething quite new to this district, for nothing lilce them has been seen in Hawke's Bay before," said Mr Bogers. "They are really first-rate for such a show as the gala fete. ' ' At the present time Nelson Park is a scene of activity in preparation for the opening of the fete to-morrow evening. Stalls and sideshows — and there will be plenty of them — are being ereeted, while the finishing touclies to the decorative scheme are being made. Tn addition, the neccssary arrangements for various forms of amnsement that are to be offered to the people aro recoiving attention. In consequence there is a big numbcr of men engaged in one way or another with providing the people of Hastings and the surrounding districts with an outstanding New Year holiday attraction. The fete will be held on two nights, concluding with a special fireworks display and celebration of the dawn of , tho New Year.
