HOLIDAY DANCE

~ WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. The holiday spirit was uppermost at the Rangatahi Hall, Tapairu, when a carefree erowd, including many people from Waipukurau, spent several very pleasant hours dancing to the music oi Harry Bowen's orchestra (Hastings). The hall — a new and very fine building — had been embellished most tastefully. An intricate network of black and white and red and white streamers was overhead, and from it were suspended innumerable artistic Chinese Janterns. A profusion of pretty paper festoons and greenery were used most effectively. More colour was provlG«d by cleverly-made Hawaijan leis, which were sold freely, and by novelty hats, which were distributed to everyone. Each hat bore a number and late in the evening the competition was finalised, Mrs Rangi Rupuha winning the ladies' prize (a handsome toilet set), and Mr Jimmy Nation the men's (a compact shaving set, etc). The supper was exceptionally good, satisfying all tastes and appetites, and Mr Hepa Meha gave most efficient service as M.C. After the last dance Mr Nation thanked the organisers for such an enjoyable function and on his call three .cheers were given for them with the utmost vigour. Proceeds froni the dance will help to meet the cost of lining the hall. •
