Patangata Club's Successful Outing at the River

OTANE, Last Night. The Patangata and District Club's annual swimming carnival was held at the Patangata river on Boxing Day under ideal weather conditions, and was one of the most successful ellorts yet sponsored by thi3 club. During the year tne club had carried out a number of improvements to the SAvimming pool and grounds, and these were much appreciated by the competitors and visiting public. 4 Before the "commencement of the main prograimne a number of foot races, novelty events and lollio scrarubles were held for the children, who were present in large numbers. Iee-creams^ soft drinks and free hot water were available on the grounds, and were much in demand. The secretary, Mr Douglas Smith, had made very complete arrangements for the day's sports, and he, together with the starter, Mr Arnott. the handicappers, Messrs T. Priest and 0. Page, and the judgea, Messrs D. Smith, senr., A. E. Black, J. Ashly and J. N. BaTrie, worked hard to ensure the suecess of the carnival. The winners of the principal events were: — Primary schoolboys ' handicap.— B. Uru 1, C. Page 2, B. Brugell 3. Girls' 25 yards handicap.— D. Spargo 1, Mary Scrimgeour 2, N. Page 3. Boys' 25 yards handicap. — C. Bakcr 1, B. Tod 2, J. Pene 3. Novelty event. — A. Mines 1, D. Smith 2 J. Wilton 3. Men's 75 yards championship (challenge cup, presented by Mr J. Oollins). — J. Dickson 1, G. Dillon 2, J. Lovatt 3. Ladies' 50 yards championship (challenge cup ptesented by Miss N, Dillon ). — Miss A. Page 1, Margaret Scrimgeour 2, N. Page 3. Neat divc, open. — J. Dickson 1. Miss C. Hercock 2, R. Stephenson 3. Ladies' SO yards breastst'roke. — N. Pago 1, Mary Scrimgeour 2, T. Pilcher 3, High dive, open. — P. Adeane 1, J. Covatt 2, E. Stephenson 3. Men's handicap, 50 yards. — J. Dickson 1, M. Higgs 2, D. Smith 3. Ladfes' handicap, 50 yards. — M. Scrimgeour 1, A. Page 2. N. Dillon 3. Underwater swim. — B. Wallace 1, E. Stephenson 2, J. Spooner, 3. In the evening a very successful and enjoyable dance was held in the Patangata Hall, Mr L. Munro 's orchestra supplying the music. The trophies won during the afternoon were presented to the winners at this function.
