At a reeent meeting of the committee of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club, three innovations th?t should pleaso tne publie were app:- v ved. The top stand 'over that of the stewards' stand, which has been reserved for many years soiely for members of the H.B.J.C., has now been thrown open to the general public, which means that now there will be ample seating accommodation for all. This particular stand is casily the best vanta£e point on the Hastings racecourse, and I am sure the publie will appreeiate the action of the H.B.J.C. The tea rooms, situated at the rear of the maiu stand on the inside lawn, have of late been recogniged as hardly large eno. gh to aceommodate the public at peak times, anu as there is always a large attendance at the summer meeting, this accommodation would have been over-taxed, so tlie club has decided to once again open the tea kiosk, situated at the west side of the lake. It is lovely and cool in the kiosk, and with beautiful gardens surrounding it, as well as the cool fresh water lake this consideration will also b s appreciated by race patrons. The third recommendation adopted by the committee is that in all races starting on the left side of the birdcage the preliminaries, instead of commencing down the straight, as usual, will begin near the caretaker's residence, thus the horses will gallop up the straight. This ' --ition has been mado so as to allo outsiue jmblic a better chance to soo ,the horses in ; action.
