Treaty Port of Tsingtao Next Objective CHINESE ENTRENCHING

(Eeceived 2S, 2.30 p«m.) SHANGHAI, Dec.^ 27. The Japanese are making a bid for the treaty port of Tsingtao, which is directly threatened after the occupation of Tsinanfu. The Chinese are entrenching at Weihsien, an important intervening railway centre, but it is considered there is little prospect that they will check tho Japanese advance. A'cting on the advice of the State Department at Washington, Americans are leaving Tsingtao to-morrow for Shanghai. Four days' fighting precedmg the faii of Tsinanfu cost the Japanese only 120 casualties. It is officially claimed also that when before retreating the Chinese set fire to all tho important buildings. These included the Japanese GonsulateGeneral and the headquarters of General Han Fu Chu, Governor of Shantung. When the conquerors entered the entire walled city appeared to be ablaze.
