MOTORIST FINED
Intoxication Charge A plea that his livelihood was dependent on his having a driving licence, was suceessfully made by a young man, John Edward Booth, aged 20, a butcher, when he appeared charged with being intoxicated in charge of a motor-car, before Messrs F. J. Hull and D. F. McLeod, J.P. 's in the Hastings Police Court this morning. He was fined £7. Aecused pleaded guilty to the charge. and Senior-Sergeant G. Sivyer detailed his arrest at Havelock North on Christmas Eve. Aecused had been most frank about the matter, he said. The Benek deiiveied a homily on the dfuger to other road users of such -ionduct. There was a vast difference between a man becoming intoxicated and hurting himself, and of being intoxicated while in charge of a car. with the pos'sibility of serious ly injuring someone else. However, in view of the fact that it was Christmas time, and that tlie defendant was very voung, he would be allowed leniency on this occasion. A fine .was
