TOTE FIGURES DOWN BY £1800 Fields Affected by Heavy Scratchings CONCLUDING EVENTS The concluding events at the Waipukurau Jockey Club's summer meeting yesterday provided some interesting racing. B. Stowe was the most successful horseman, having three winning mounts. Heavy scratchings reduced some of the fields considerably, which consequently gre^tly affected the totalisator turnover. The single pool machine was in operation and £6153 10/- was handled for the day, as against £8136 for the same day last year, this being a decrease fo £1893. , Following are the additional results: THE HUNTER HANDICAP. Of £85; 1 mile and a distanco 1 AUBE, Mr J. McDonald's b.g. aged, by Arausio — Te Aupoki, 3 0.10 (Mr R. H. Plummer) .1 3 Recitation, Mr P. F. Wall's br.g. Gyrs, 10.10 (Mr G. James)) 2 '2 Umpire,. Mr -H. Monteith's b.g. aged 11.10 (Mr S. B Monteith) S Also started: 4 Tres Sec 11.1 (Mr C. J. Millar). The field were difficult to line up but they got away tvell together. Aube quickly went to the front and in a short di-stance opened up a big gap from Recitation, Umpire and Tres Sec. There was no change in the order into the straight but Recitation on the rails and Umpire on the outside had closeo up considerably on the leader, who, however, held ojit against their challenge, winning by two lengths. Recitation finisR'ed a neck in front of Umpire after the pair had raced together ovor the last four furlongs. Tres Sec was last. Time 2.1 4-5. NOVICE RACE. At the far turn the favourite had gone up to take charge with sToriuny Atkins lying just behind from King's Hope and Mystery Boy. There was no change in the order as they ran acrosa the top for the favourite to show the way into the straight. Tht position of Paul Robeson was not en-d.-mgered in his run to the post and he won comfortably by a length fron Tommy Atkins who beat King's Hope by a head for second. Flying Con\edy and Thala finished next. Time, 1.16 3-5 OPEN FLYING HANDICAP. Of £100; 7 furlongs. 4 HATUMA, Mr P. F. Wall's br.g. aged, by Arausio — Dissertation - 7.7 (B. Stowe) x 3 Pladie, Mr F. Fliff's ch.g. aged 8.2 (H. Callahan) 2 1 Slippery, Mr G. MeCormick's blk.g., aged 8.10 (H. Young) .. 3 Also started: 2 Gasman 7.7 (J. Forsyth). 5 Bunfight 7.7 (P. Dornan). Hatuma started away best froiu f. good despatch, leading from Slippery, Gasman and Bunfight. Making a fast run. on the outside, Bunfight went up into second position from Slippery, Gasman and Pladie. Going up the hill Hatuma still led but Pladie had moved into second position from Bunfight and Gasman. As they turned into the straight Hatuma and Pladie were almost oii even ternis, with Slippery and Gasman running together two lengths back. An exciting race between , thw leading pair " took place to the post, and as they Taced over the line Hatuma held the bare margin of half a head. Slippery was third nearly two lengths back. Gasman was fourth. Time 1.28 2-5. PORANGAHAU HACK HANDICAP. Of £90; one mile. 5 AGOG Mr H. Dennett's b.g. aged by Cape Horn — Vigilance 7.4 (B. Stowe) i 1 4 Seyfried, Mr J. J. Austin's b.g. 4yrs 7.8 (H. Callahan) 2 1 Felicitation, Mr P. F. Wall's br f.. 3yrs 9.0 (H. Young) 3 Also started: 2 Fosicker 9.3 (J. Walsh), 6 Tupai 7.4 (P. Dornan), 3 Haile Selassie 7.0 (J. Forsyth), 7 Lavwood 7.0 (L. Molloy). Haile Selassie was left when the tapes rose. Felicitation was first to break the line from Fossicker Agog, Seyfried, Tupai and Larwood. At the foot of the hill there was little change in the positions and as they turned into the straight the favourite held a slight advantage over Agog, with Fossicker, Tupai and Seyfried all well placed. A furlong off the post Agog began to draw away to win rathor easily by two lengths from Seyfried, whc outran the favourite by a head Fossicker was fourth. Time, 1.4'3.
