Th3 presidfi't of the society, Miss Elsie Wil.'iams. spoke higlily of the wonderful work which Nursc Martin had done during the 18 years that she had worked for the Hastings Plunket Society. Miss Wilbaius said tliat there was not a member of the committoe wi>o did uot ervy her 1be privilege of expressing appreciation of Nurse Martin 's work". She said that Nurse Martin bad always worked very harmoniouslv with her eomnrttee, and that the secret "f her outstanding success was that she always put' the mothers and babies first the committe& second and herself a bad last. On behalf of the committee members and the mothers, Miss Williams present ed to Nurse Martin a beautiful canteen of cutlery, and wished her mueb future happiness. Mrs Baumgart spoke on behalf of themothers who had come in contact with Nurse Martin and who knew and valued her work; She me-ntioned especially the great comfort which the nurse's visits were to each mother, as her presence gave strength to everyone. In conclusion Mrs Baumgart said that she was sure every one of the hundreds of mothers who had known Nurse Martin would like to thank her very sin'cerely for all her help. Mrs A. R. Greenwood read a letter from the Mayoress, Mrs G. A. Maddison, regretting that she was unable to be present, but expressing very great appreciation of all that Nurse Martin had done during her long service to the Plunket Society. Nurse Martin thanked the committee and mothers for their gift and for all their praise, and said that she had always been very happy in her work. Afternoon tea was then dnjoyed by everyone. Those present were: — Miss Elsie Williams, Nurse Martin, Mrs R. Sunderland, Mrs A. R. Greenwood, Mrs A. D. S. Whyte, Mrs W. A. Whitlock, Mrs F. J. Hull, Mrs H. A. Fannin, Mrs H. Holderness, Miss S Wellwood, Mrs E. Y. Simpson, Mrs H. Glazebrook, Mrs J. Lyons, Mrs J. B. Pickering, Mrs Stubbs and Miss Kathleen Stubbs, Mrs C. Bates, Mrs H. Gascoyne, Mrs W. Wellwood, Mrs E. Anderson, Mrs P. J. Priest, Mrs Baumgart, Mrs H. Single and Nurse Campbell.
