INTERMEDIATE SCHOOLS
Progress in Hawke's Bay "The question of the establishment of intermediato sehools has oecupied considerable attention during the year," commented the chairman of the Hawke's Bay Education Board, Mr G. A. Maddison, In the course of his annual report. "The proposal to establish an intermediate sehool at Hastings reached an important stage during the year. A meeting of members of the Hastings sehool committees, with those of Mangateretere and Havelock North, and also members of thr High Sehool Board, decided, with only a few dissentients. in favour of the establishment of an intermediate sehool in Hastings. The site for the sehool is available, and we can, I feel sure, be confident also that authority for the erection of the sehool will be received when the Gisborne Intermediate Sehool is under way. "The Napier Intermediate Sehool continues to grow in public estimation as an important feature of our educatioual system. There has been a great deal of propaganda against the intermediate sehool sy tem, but mueh of the criticism has been Jhe criticism of inexperience id lack of knowledge of the actual working of these sehools. The board will have to take in hand shortly the question of modernising and extend ing the buildings and equipment -at this sehool to brmg them up to the standard which has been. adonted for I sehools of this tyj ' -
