Mr. Maddison Praises Teachers and Committees BEAUTIFYING SCHEMES Praise for the various sehool grounds in Hawke's Bay is contained in the annual report of the chairman of the Hawke's Bay Education Board, Mr. G. A. Maddison. "I feel that special mention^ should be made of tne high level which ,has been attained in respect to the appearanee of our sehool grounds," he stated. ■ "Many beautifying sehemes have been undertaken — these being independent of the works mentioned above which were carried out by the Public Works Department, and on the whole the environment at each sehool is a most pleasing one. "I have been gratified when visiting our remoter sehools, even some which might well be termed back-block sehools, to ind what excellent work has been done, and to see the pride 'that is taken in making the surroundings of the sehools so pleasing to the eye. I should mention that one of our remotest sehools received the highest praise in the district for its efforts in this d:rectioh. "I wish therefore Lo record my heartiest thanks to the sehool committees and to the teachers, from whose efforts so mueh fine work has resulted. I feel sure that in no other district in New Zealand has a higher level of improvement in general been attained."
