Spanish Loyalists Capture Italian General FRANCO'S PLAN THWARTED

(Received 23, 10.50 a.m.) BABCELONA, Dec. 22. Fighting is still in progress. The whole of the southern zone of Teruel is in Government hands, but resistanee is still being encountered in the northern part of the old town. The Government captured 12,000 prisoners, many heavy guns, and piles of equipment at Teruel. The loyalists captured the Bishop of Teruel and an Italian general. Paris newspapers point out that the Government victory ends General Franco's plan for cutting Eepublican Spain into two parts. A Gibraltar message says that four loyalist planes raided Seville and Cadiz and dropped many bombs, sinking a cargo vessel at Cadiz. Insurgent warships seized and took to Ceuta the French steamer Francois. , The British Labour Party has sent the following telegram to Dr. Juan Negrin, Spanish Prime Minister: "Lovers of freedom throughout the world will rejoice at the signal blow struck at Teruel by Spanish democracy against Fascism."
