Conditions of Work and Wages INCREASES GRANTED

WELLINGTON, This Day. Conditions of work and wages in the dairy industry have been fixed in an award issued by tlie Arbitration Court to-day, applyiug to butter nnd cheese factories, millc powder and cpndensed millc factories, cream-bulking depots, casein and casein-drying factories and cheese-curing stations, It comes into force on January 3. The hours in the .busy season have been retained, but the period over which the longest spread shall operate has been reduced to a period it is thought will conform generally to the busiest months of the season. In regard to wages, the Court has taken into consideration that consider%bly longer hours are worked than in most factories, and has granted increases accordingly, ranging from £4 14/- for first assistants in larger factories, down to £4 10/- for general workers, with overtime provisions and Saturday and Sunday work carrying cxtra pay.
