Concert and Prize Distribution

ELSTHOEPE, Last Night. There was a large attendance at tlio school concert given by the pupils of the Elsthorpe School in the local hall. The proceeds were in ai.d of a radio for the school, and close on £10 was taken. The programme opened with a weicome song "Hurrah! Hurrahl" followed by "Eairy Glade" and "The Climate." Mouth organ solos were played by Ken McAulay. liecitations were given by Doreen Eagle, Eileen Eagle, May Smith, Mavis Eagle, Joan Lissette and Audrey Cheer. Further songs were: "Lazy Schoolboyt," "Early One Morning" ^cuorus by Shirley Eagle), Kew Zealand melody, "lna Canoe" (Kai Pango and Olive Edwards), "Land of Kod." ' ' Lullaby. ' ' Parf songs (seniors), "Pokare" and "Sicilian Maid," "The Toothbrush Song" (juniors), ''"'"To-day is Monday" (primers) ; action song in costume, "The Dancing Colleens" (senior girls); action song, "The Mulberry Buah" (primers) ; ' ' Two Little Girls in Blne, ' ' pat Butler and June Nockall;; "Kound the Clock" (juniors), "The 'Spelling Match" (girls);; song, "Keys of Heaven" (Joan Lissette and Doreen Cheer); humorous wrestling relay, Patty Nelson and Company; drill display 'The Wonderful Invention" and "Wanted— a Boy" (seniors); piano duet, Patty Nelson, Joan Lissette; school percussioh band, "Elsthorpe School Tinpot Band," "Sweet Angeline," "Did Yonr Mother Come from Ireland," and "Kainbow on the Kiver. ' ' The " Good^night Sopg" brought the concert to a close, after which the school prizes were presented by Mrs. A. McGaffin. Mr. A. McGaffin thanked the large attendance for their support and congratulated the teacher, Mr. Thompson, and the pupils on the evening's entertainment and wished them all the compliments of the season. The prize list was as follows: — Form IHL: Eileen Eagle. Form II.: Joan Lisette 1, Doreen Cheer 2, Kathleen McGaffin 3, Patty Nelson, Aileen McGaffin, Pat Butler. Form I.: Marie Watson 1, Ian Eagle 2, Loula Cheer 3, June Nockall. Std. 4: Doreen Eagle. Std. 3: Eobert Eagle 1, Ken McAulay 2, Joyce Sinclair 3, Maurice Eagle. Std. 2: Mavis Eagle 1, May Smith 2, Lacricia Thompson 3. Std. 1: Billy Gilmour 1, Beverley Watson 2, Konald Powell 3, Selwyn Watson, Melva Eagle, Cyril Eagle, Apiata Thompson. Primers: Alex Gilmour, Shirley Eagle, Norma Stubbs, Margaret Macaulay, Noel Rumbal, Eai Pango, Harold Powell, Janice Watson, Noel Powell, Eob. Bruce, Olive Edwards, Eaymond Eagle. After supper was served, dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Miss L. Nelson, Mrs. H. Cheer and Messrs. J. Macaulay, H. Beale, W. August and A. Thompson. Mr. Colquhoun was an efficient MC.
