CHRISTMAS BONUS

Benefits for Those Recently Unemployed During this week the Hon. W. E. Barnard, M.P., reported to the Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, on the position of men who, although now fully employed on Government or other works, until recently were on the unerqployment ibgister. Mr , Barnard pointed out that no provision appeared to have been made for such men under any esisting schemes for holiday pay. The Minister has telegraphed a prompt reply in which he states that th# position of fce men recruited from the tmemployment xegister within two months of Christmas for employment on Government works has been under' consideration and it has now been decided that, if they are otherwise eligible and have not qualified for holiday pay under the conditions of their present employment, it is proposed to grant them the Christmas bonus and pay for the holidays.
