SKIDS AND CRASHES
Many Accidents on Frozen Roads in Britain (Received 22, 8.45 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 21. A severe frost persisting throughout England, combined with a _ f og, made road conditions the worst in memory. It was a day of skids and crashes on the glassy, frozen roads. A military lorry and a bus collided at Windsor, injuring five Grenadier Guards and a girl in the bus. Five British soldiers from Fort Donegal were injured when 20 were "trapped in an overturned bus. They were unable to escape until a passer-by heard their groans and released them. The liner Queen Mary was unable to call at Plymouth and carried on passengers to Southampton. There were a lion and four lionesses iu three cages which were ditched in a fog between Leicester and Nottingham, Another lorry crashed into the cages and tte bars of the lion's cage were smashml, but the lion refused to leave owing to the intense cold. He shivered until the trainer secured the cage. Flares warned other traffic of their presence.
