LEARNING TO SWIM
Success at Central School As a result of the "Learn-to-Swim" campaign, 57 pupils at the Hastings Central School, mostly in the lower standards, learned tp swim successfully one width or more and dozens of others have learned, but not enough to pass the minimum test of a width. The campaign ended with an apple scramble in the baths, by first the new swimmers and Tien by all swimmers. The thanks of pupils and staff go to Mr C. H. Slater who kindly donated the fruit. Timms, June Steele, Sam Harris, Cornelius Golding, Jim Taylor, Joyce McKain, Patty Thomas, Doreen Smith, Roy Almond, Alan Deacon, Bruce Priest, Sally McYay, Huia Tunnicliffe, Doreen Geenty, Ron Bacon, Shirley Hutchinson, Tui Tunnicliffe, Pat Smith, Ruth Black, Eileen Bone, Sheila Giffney, Jean Bicknell, William Geenty, Len Sowman, Betty Richie, Patty Richardson, Harry Abbott, Neville Howara, Neville McCombe, Trevor Heasman, Ken Richardson, Dawn Start, Betty Harris, Les Walden, Ray'Lambert, Earl Weaver, Ray Ashworth. All these pupils heartily thank the many pupils who acted as instructors during the week, and the bath custodian and the Heretaunga Swimming Club, for apparatus supplied.
