NEW £60,000 BUILDING FOR AUCKLAND

The tender for the building on Jean Batten Place, which is to replace old Shortland Street Po'st Ofiice. demolished over a year ago, and which is to horse , Government departments, has been let to the Fletcher Construction Co. and work on the excavations is to begin immediately after the holidays. It was stated to-day, on behalf of the firm, that the tender is for the foundation in the basement and also for the full height. A feature of unusual interest is that the steel frame is to be welded instead of riveted. The contract price is in the region" of £60,000.'
