Victories to West End and United ] METHODIST'S FAILURE Another series of games in the midweek cricket competition was conclud» ed at Nelson Park, Hastings, yesterday afternoon, when two outright wins were rccorded. Conditions were good, but for the most part the batting was on the low side, only one or two good individual scores being reeorded. Methodist were unable to regain mastery after their collapse of the first day and went under to West End by eight wiekets. In the other game United led "all the way against Heretaunga td secure four points by 54 runs. • -t Details of the games- are as follow: — UNITED v. HERETAUNGA. With no wiekets down for 36 runs United resumed their second innings against Heretaunga, and brought the innings to a close at 121. Heretaunga were faced with making 146 to win and failed by 54 runs. SATUEDAY JUNIOR GAMES In the Saturday junior competition, Whakatu defeated Otane by an innings and 77 runs. Otane made 61 in the first innings (Curley 24; T. Goodall four foi 11, Christinson three for 33) and 26 in the second innings (Luke 10; E. Love four for 10, T. Goodall four for 11). Whakatu made 164 for six wiekets and declared the innings closed (Christinson 50, J. Love 47, Arthur 2-7, J.
Goodall 25; Curley three for 42). Fruitworlcers defeated Havelock by an innings and 27 runs. Batting first the Villagers made 40 (Clarke 15 not out; Taylor six for 21, Wilkins four for 14), and in reply Fruitworkeis made 131 (Geake 34, Taylor 31, R> Galbraith 20, L. Galbraith 14, Wilkins li, E. Davis tliree for 26). In their second innings Havelock North made 64 (B. Davis "25, Buehanan 17, J. Dav.'y 14; Wilkins six for 34, Geake three for 27). In an unusually tall-scorlng game, in which a century was compiled, Hastings and Hastings* H.S.O.B. drew. Old Boys batted first to make 210 for nine wiekets declared (Tritt 103 retired, Gallager 40, Fippard 15), and in reply Hastings liad lost seven wiekets foi 209 runs when stumps were drawn (MeKenzie 51, Kolands 41, Amess 31, Drummond 19, Plank 19, Cushing 16; Toothill four for 65, Garnett three for 46).
