Store Cattle Improve at Waipukurau WETHERS AT 23/9 A small yarding in all sections was made at the Waipukurau stock sale today, when' the best selling in the cattle pens was for as.fiue line of two-off wellbred steers, showing quality, whieh were readily sought after at £9. This sale indicated a definite improvement in the store cattle market, which until recently has been lifeless. Similar- aged empty heifers brought £6 15/-. . Due to the lack of competition the market for fat cattle was quiet, with prices being easier on last week's rates. The few pens offered were all suitable for summer beef. A biisk market ruled for local entries in the 'store sheep pens in which twotooth \Vethers improved on -Stortford Lodge last week, making 23/9. A large drai't of Merino-eross wethers irom Marlborough, although in light condition, due to the journey made. were a good fattening proposition but failed to sell, being passed at 21/6. Eealisations were as. under: — FAT CATTLE. Five medium to heavy clean-bred Aberdeen-Angus cows, in good order, sold cheaply from £7 15/- to £9. On account of Mr. D. H. Rickey, Porangahau, four small-grown Herefordcross heifers, well finished and good for summer cutting, sold at £7 15/-. On account of Mr. J. W. Harding. Mount Yeruon, Waipukurau, eight me- , dium-grown Aberdeen-Angus bullocks, medium to prime finish, bemg a splen- - did summer beef entry, sold in a line at £11 11/-. Three medium-grown heifers, in good order, sold at £8 15/-. STORE CATTLE. On account of Mr. J. L. Stoddart, Wallingford, 14 clean-bred, medium- : grown Aberdeen-Angus heifers, guaran;teed empty, and m good store concfltion, sold at £6 15/-. On account of the same vendor, 23 similar bred, rising, three-year Aber-deen-Angus eteers, which should develop into a good chilling line, being Jn particularly good- order and showiug quality, sold after good competition at £9. STOEE SHEEP. From Marlborough, a draft of 915 Merino-cross 6-tqoth to 4-year wethers, in light to medium order, were started at 20/- and passed^at 21/6. These wethers slioulcj finish. readily as first quality mutton. n A bid of 23/10 secured a line of 159 ,well grown two and four-tooth wethers nn very forward order, having been }well done. » .An offering of 161 eaTly-shorn Wellgiown two-tooth wethers, in forward order, were sought after to sell at £3/9. f. An entry of 45 aged ewes, in forward order, being a good fattening proposition, Were-slow to sell at 11/-. An offering of Down-cross store lambs, medium grown, in good order and ready for putting on to rape, being in fresh condition, brought 18/-. FAT SHEEP. Seven prime heavy late-shorn wethers, being a good buteher's line, sold at 26/6. A pen of heavy prime early-shorn ewes sold at 17/8. Six well finished Down-cross lambs, in extra good order— the tops would kill at close on 401bs. — sold at 23/9. A pen of aged ewes, in the wool, showing very plain quality, brought 19/8.
