FURTHER VANDALISM

Damage to Cornwall Park Pavilion SENSELESS DESTRUCTION Though barely brought into coramission, the new pavilion at Cornwall Fark was subjected to damage by vandals, or hooligans, during the week-end, to provide the borough authorities with still another instance of semseless and wasteless vaadalism. Along the seating round the pavilion the woodwork has been pock-marked with a spike and considerably defaced, but in addition someone sought to break-up a portion of the seating by prizing the wooden beams from their ' foundations. In the attempt to do this the partv concerned even went to the trouble of sliarpening the end of a wooden batten and sought to use it as a lever. However, the attempt failed when the batten was snapped in two. "There appears to be no limit to what some people will do," said an offieial of the Hastings Borough Council this morning. "I doubt whether there is another town in New Zealand which is as bad as Hastings for vandalism in its parks and public places. It is mosfc disheartening. ' '
