Prize-Giving ahd Breaking-up • Ceremony

WAIPAWA, Last Night. The afiniial prize-giving and "breakup" ceremony 6i the Waipawa District High School was held in the Municipal Theatre, there being a capacity house, including a large number of adults, in-dieatiag-a Very liv'O intefest on the part of parents in the work of the school. This wffiS thb first occasion the committee has held the ceremony in the evetdng, afad the change proved to be a. Tery pdpular one. The proceedings opened with a chorus by the infant classes, "The Frog he would a Wooing Go," followed by the High School girls in "Alolia-Oe." At this stage Mr Strang, chairman of the school committee, thanlced all present for their KSSistande in making the fund- | tion sucli a Success. He stated that he * had recently had an opportUnity of inspecting a auniber of school reports, - and those from the Central district had beea tilost satisfactory. Progress was being made in education, and it was now becoming less me'hrnical, and more and more was being done to study the individual wants of each child. He was looking forward to the day when the course of education would be more continuous with not such a markedr distinctioa between the work of the different classes. , Mr Christie congratulated the committee. on the success of the evening, and in conclusion said he wished to issue a word of warning to the children to beWare of trafflc dadger during the holidayS, when there would be a terrific volumc of traffic on the roads. He joined- with the chairman in extending Christmiis greetings to the staff and pupils. The' programme was brought to a close by the singing of the school song, "Forty Years On", and the National Anthem. The- Dux medal was then presented by Mrs Christie to W.
