PACIFIC AIR SERVICE
Does Not Depend on Mail Contract (Eeceived 18, 8.45 a.m.) SAN EEANCISCO, Dee. 17. The Pan-Aoierican Airways Corporation denied reports that the service to New Zealand is contingent on its securing the American air-mail contract. The company said that their plans did not depend on the contract. "That has been the case all the time," said Mr H. Gatty, speeial representative of Pan- American Airways in New Zealand and Australia, when the message from' San Francisco was referred to him (states an Auckland Press Association message). "It has not been a condition of the starting of the service. We have been flying on the Bermuda run without a subsidy for some time," he continued. "This service was commenced without a subsidy and is still continuing without one. It has been running since about the end of April this year." "The date of the arrival of the survey clipper on her second flight is as yet not definite," Mr Gatty added. "There has been no change in the plans to receive the ship and everything will be in readiness for her arrival." Mr Gatty mentioned that Mr A. L. Oharman, chief radio operator of the company in New Zealand, who has been at Eussell during the past weelc installing radio equipment in the company 's station there, was now testing the sets and getting them in order for use.
