VANDALS IN CEMETERY
Wreaths Broken at Hastings POLICE INVESTIGAT1NG The destruction of about 20 of the glass wreaths placed on the graves at the Hastings Cemetery is the latest activity of the vandals who have been exceptionally busy of late in the borough resex'ves and public buildings. Mr. J. G. C. Mackenzie, Borough Superintendeut of lleserves, reported to ihe Borough tlouncil this morning that late yesterday afternoon it had been noted that some 20 or so of the wreaths had been broken along the drive from the main gate in the direction of the Stortford Lodge mission hall. It is assumed that the destruction was carried out on Thursday evening. "it appears that the glass covering on these wreaths were smashed with a boot," said Mr. Mackenzie. 'There is uothing to indicate that they were smashed by irresponsible boys, or children throwing stones. Whoever is responsible for the dainage went right along the row, and, in a number oi instances, seriously damaged the artificial flowers, as wel] as breaking the glass coverings." Naturally the borough authorities are particularly wrnthful at this heartlea and wanton destruction, and the co-operation of the police has been secured for a^thorougb investigation and inquiry. At all too frequent occasions mention has been made of various acts oi vandalism that have been committed in the borough, and the prevalence of this spirit is causing great concern to 1 the authorities, and the co-operation 1 of the citizens is earnestly sought.
