DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES AT QUEENSWOOD SCHOOL

"The old standards of conduct are rapidly changing, and present-day parents might well wouder what sort of world their children, who are nt present at school, will enter when tlie time comes for them to leave," said Miss Eixon, the principal of Queenswood School, when addressing the parents and friends who attended the prize distribution held yesterday afternoon. "The root of the trouble is the lack or discipliue in the home," continued Miss Kixon, "and it is evident that this discipline is becoming more and more slack. Modern children are strietly cared for when young and are well trained to form good habits, but this discipline is soon allowed to go. 1 ' Each home should have a background of recognised consistem authority, and the children should be so trained to the habit of doing rigkt when they are young that they may then be enabled to exercise self-control when they stand on their own feet out in the world." Miss Rixon sincerely welcomed all the parents and friends and expressed pleasure at seeing present many of her old friends who take great interest in the work at Queenswood. She extended thanks to the following who had made donations towards the prize fund: Mrs Noel Beamish, Mrs E. J. Herrick, Mrs G. Mason, Mrs F. Maekenzie, Mrs E. L. Commin, Mrs A. D. S. Whyte, Mrs Fourneau, Mrs F. Clark, Mrs N. Gray, Sheila Maclntyre and Pam Circuitt. That the year's work had been good Miss Eixon considered that the parents would be able to see from the exhibition of work^ and when speaking about this she thanked the members of her staff, Mrs Guthrie, Miss Langley, Miss Dobree and Miss Fulford for their help and co-operation. She expressed gratitude also to Miss Betty Grifiiths, of Iona College, who judged the drill and gave much helpful advi.ee, and also to Mr C. B. Spinney, for extra work which he had done. Before asking Miss Elsie Williams to present the prizes, Miss Eixon explained that it had been arranged that Mrs II. W. Williams should present them this year as the late Rt. Eev. H. W. Williams was the patron of the school, but these plans were neeessarily changed and Miss Williams had kindly consented at very short notice to take Mrs Williams 's place'.
