Pupils of Mrs. Freda Wilson

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. J The annual invitation xecital of pupils of Mrs Ereda J. Wilson, L.A.B., A.L.C.M., was held in St. Andrev's Hall, whieh was filled with parents and friends. The stage was beautifully deeorated. The back was draped with dark blue curtains, and placed on a low table in front of these was a big crystal bowl in wliich was arranged crimson lilies and ferns. A wealth of erimson and deep red roses, scarlet geraniums and pink lilies filled each side of the stage, and near the piano was a tall standard lamp, with a big square crimson shade, the whole colour scheme being most effective. The programme presented was most enjoyable. The items were well chosen, excerpts from well known classical composers being interpreted with marked ability and expression by the students. The younger pupils showed great promise,' and a number of the senior pupils also showed themselves to be talented performers. The assisting artist was Miss Elgar Christie, whose beautiful voiee was heard to advantage in several solos. In the first group she gave for au encore, "By the Sea" (Roge Quellin), and for the second group, "Came Ye Ry" (Benjamin Burrow). At the conclusion she was presented with an exquisite bouquet. G (Handel), Edgar Heasman; pianoforte duet, Entracte II aod Ballet Music from Rosamunde (Schubert), Airini Hutt and Patricia Parsons; pianoforte solo, Little Blossoms (Gurlitt), Judith Wilson; pianoforte solo, Jig (Graun McDowell), Patricia Parsons; pianoforte solo, Romance in D. Minor (Sibelius), Joau Smyrk; pianoforte solo, Promendates d'un Solitaire (Heller), Airini Hutt; vocal solos (a) Du bist die Ruh (Schubert), (b) O That it Were So (Erank Bridge), (3) The Blackbird's Song (Cyril Scott), Miss Elgar Christie; pianoforte solo, Polonaise in C. Minor (Chopin), Miss Kitty Riddle; vocal solos, (a) The Lost One (Granville Bantock), (b) The Buckle (Arthur Bliss), (c) My Lover Comes a Riding (Vaughan de Leath), Miss Elgar Christie; panoforte duet, Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 (Liszt), Miss Kitty Riddle and Mrs E. J. Wilson. During the interval, Mr E. J. Dunbar apologised for the absence of Mr C. G. Harker, of Waipawa, who was unable to be present. He congratulated Mrs Wilson on the success of her pupils' recital and on the high standard attained. : In reply, Mrs Wilson stated that this 'year she could not take all the credit, as she had been helped by another teacher, Miss Kitty Riddle. Mrs Wilson then presented the certifiicates and prizse won during the year to the following pupils: — Certificatesi Patricia Parsons, Advanced Senior (honours), Trinity College; Airini Hutt, Grade VI, Intermediate, R.S.M.; Airini Hutt, Harmony, Grade I (Etonours); June Hewitt, Grade II, Grammar of Music; June Wilson, Grade II; Margaret Watson, Grade II; Graham Wilson, Grade 1; Rae Paton, Preliminary Division. Prizes: Highest examination marks, Patricia Parsons; progress prizes, Rae Paton, Mary Russell; best musical #scrap hook, Shona Bell. Mrs Wilson and Miss Riddle were the recipients of beautiful gifts from the pupils, and they were also presented ■with exquisite bouquets, from the parents and the pupils. Mrs Wilson wore an attractive model gown in rich magnolia satin, with a one shoulder draping of jade green chiffon, crossing over to form a belt with a bow at the back, the skirt falling in sweeping folds, and a long necklace of jade was worn.
Miss Riddle chose mauve georgette, iaving a long pleated basque and ful. 3kirt. Miss Christie wore a beautiful gown of bronze and silver brocade in big pink and green flowers, the skirt fitting round the hips and falling in deep flares. The corsage was finished with a big posy of matching flowers. Among those present were: — Mr and Mrs J. Paton, Mr and Mrs 3T. J. Dunbar, and Mr A. Dunbar, Mr and Mrs J.
