Wakarara's Second Birthday
At the second birthday party of the Wakarara Women's Institute all members were present. Mrs Warlow welcomed a number of visitors from the Waipawa and Ongaonga instituteg, and greetings were received from Tikokino, and from a past member, Mrs H. McNeill. Community singing, a play presented by the Waipawa members, and a song by Waipawa children, were much enjoyed. Competitions were won by Mrs Carr and Miss Baker. A delicious afternoon tea was served by members, the birthday calce, made and iccd by Mrs Spotswood, taking pride of plaoe. After tea Mrs Preston gave an interesting talk on her trip to the Islands, displaying many interesting articles, Mrs Barker tlianked the visitors for their entertainment, and all present joined in singing "Auld Lang Syne" and ihe National Anthem, which brought a
very pleasant change to a close. The December meeting of the Wakarara Women's Institute was held in the Makarora Schoolrooni on the fourth of the month. In the absence of the president, Mrs Douglas presided over a ■■ fair attendance of members. The meeting took the form of a chiMren's Christmas party, and after the business had been dealt with each child received a gift from the Christmas tree, following which they all sat down to a delicious tea served by the hostess, Mrs Grant. Competitions resulted as follow: Dressed doll, Mrs Barker 1, Mrs Grant 2; Christmas gift, Mts Barker 1 and 2.
