Auckland Law School Director PROFESSOR R. M. ALGIE

WELLINGTON, Last Night. The resignation of Professor R. M. Algie from the position of ptofessor of law at Auckland University College was received with deep regret by a meeting of the College Council. Professor Algie has been asked to accept the position of organiser for an organisation to be known as the Auckland Provincial Freedom Association, and in his letter of resignation he said he thought the position he had been asked to take involved what he believcd to be a very real service to the community. The resignation Will take effeet as from the end of February. Professor Algie wrote that it was with feelings that were difficult |to express that he had decided to place his resignation in the hands of the council, and it was only after very 6erious consideration that he had decided to relinquish an offi.ee in which he hhd been very happy indeed and in which he had received abundant assistance and encouragement from members of the Auckland University College Couneil. The ptesident of the council, Mr. H. J, D. Mahon, said Professor Algie 's resignation had come as a very great surpi'ise, and he regretted exceedingly that the college was to lose the services of a man who had done such valuable work'. He had won golden opinions for his services to the community, not only within the college, but also in the city. He moved that Professor Algie 's resignation should be accepted with very great Tegret, and that the council place on record its deep appreciation of the very suceessful control of Professor Algie as director of the Pchool of Law for the last 18 years. Sir Henry HOrton said Professor Algie had been one of the bCst and most loyal professors the college had ever had.
