(Received 15, 8.45 a.m;) NEW YORK, Dec. 13. Schmeling, who weighed in at 14.0, defeated Thomas, 14.0J, on a technical knock-out in the eighth round. Thomas won the first, third and fourth rounds, the fifth being drawn. He was warned by the referee in the second, Schmeling winning the fouhd on a fotil. Joe Louis, who was a speetator, said: "I want to get a look at Schmeling from outside and inaybe spot the weakness in his defence, like he did in mine when I was fighting Uzcudun." Thomas, who entered the ting first, was mildly applauded, but Schmeling received atl ovation. Schmeling opened quietly, withholding his attack till the second round, when he erashed a stinging right to Thomas's head, followiiig this was two lefts and another right. When the fourth opened, Schmeling's nose was bleeding and Thomas's lip was eut. Thomas loosed a barrage of lefts and rights to tne body, forcing Schmeling to give ground. In the next round, which was drawn, Thomas had Schmeling spinning around, bnt he appeared tired, missing two rights to the : head. Both men stood up to a terrifie battering in the sixth. Schmeling drove Thomas to the ropes, where a series of rights and left had him groggy, and he continued the punishment in the seventh. Thomas was dowii at the bell. Schmeling knocked Thomas down for a count of oue when the' eighth round began. From that on Thomas offered lifctle resistance, being knocked down 1 five time before the referee interveiied.
