Patangata Council Business

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. A long agenda paper at the Patangata County. Council 's final meeting for the year, held in Waipukurau to-day, kept councillors busy until well into the afternoon. The meeting was presided over by Mr C. Pattison, others present being Messrs R. H. White, A. W. S. Longley, C. R. Edgecombe, B. E», O. Nilsson, A. McGafidn, W. T. Kittow,1 H. Parsons, J. D. Ormond, jun., and G. F. McHardy The clerk, Mr J. W. Elliott, and engineer, Mr J. C. McLaitchlan, were also present. An inquiry whether any feteps had been taken by tbe c-ouncil to install life-saving apparatus at Kairakau Beach, was referred to the beach committee, councillors considering that such matters wrere for people who used the beach rather than ratepayers as a whole. A petition was received from Mr W. S. Kittow, and seven other ratepayers, thtough Mr R. H. White, for attention to the corkscrew part of the road about half-way between Patangata and Tamumu. — It was decided to take steps to have a notice "Beware 6f tbe Sehool 'Bus" ereeted. Mr W. S. F. Johnston, Hautope, Patangata, stated that he could not assist with the road through Logan 's property. He noted that the sum of £150 "was on the estimates and asked - that it be speat to give him access. The engineer est'imated that farming the road would be £300. There were, about 60 chains of formation needed. Mr W. T. Kittow considered that Mr Johnston was entitled to assistance ks he had been a ,big ratepayer for many years, but Mr A. McGaffin Temindea him that a prbposhl to give an access road without a contfibution from the ratepay coficefned Opened uf) a big qilestion. It Was decided to make application for a Government grant towards improVing the corners on the Te Uii Hill road. The Patangata and District Swimming Club was granled the use of tho reserve at Patangata for its anhual sports meetiilg on December 27. The council agreed to help the Health Camp funds to the extent of one guinea, deciding to purchase liealth stamps to the value of two guineas. The council did not contribute to the Far East Relief Fund, considering it was a nialter for ratepayers inuividually.
