Janies Richards celebrated liis ninety-first birtliday at his home, Avonside, Giiristcliurch, on Saturday. He came to New Zealand from Australia many years ago to repair his health. Mr. L. Vogtherr, of the Public Trust Ofiice, Auckland, has been appointed assistant inspector to the Public Trust Office for New Zealand. Mr. Vogtherr is a son of Mr. G. W. F. Vogtherr, of Hastings, and was a prominent criclieter in Hawke' s Bay a few years ago. Rear-Admiral E. H. Gampbell, United States Navy (retired), accompanied by Mrs. Campbell, arrived at Auckland by the Monterey on Monday. After a few days in Auckland they wifi travel to various parts of New Zealand. It is expected tliat tliey wili spend about a month in the Dominiott. Sir Hugh Acland, Christchurch, returned to New Zealand by the Niagara on Monday after visiting Great Britain, Europe., Canada and the United States. During his stay in Englund he attended the annual meeting of the Bfritish Medioal Association, and he also inquired in all countries into the methods used in the milk industry, in which he is specially interested from a health point of view. Sir Hugh was accompanied' by Lady Aclalid. They arrived at Wellington yesterday by the Limited express and left for the south last night. Dr. Robert B. Gray, of Wellington, has been accepted. by th© Joint Council of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society for service ia the Ear East. He sails for Hongkong on December 28. Dr. Gray, who is 31 years old, took a course in surgery Sjt St. Bartholoinew's Hospital, and is a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgbry. He lias had appointments at the Auckland Public Hospital, the Kovlin Uounty Hospital, Gisborne, and while in England held appointments as bouse surgeon at Eveline Cliildren's Hospital. house surgeon at the Radiuin Institute, casualty officer at the National TemperaUce HospitaJ, assistant medical officer kt the Kent County Hospital, Ohaeliam, resident medical officer at the Kettering General Hospital. He alsc held a temporary commission in the Royal Army Medical Corps, Egypt, foi six months.
