Long-Distance Ayrshires.
The elaim that the Ayrshire cow is a "long-dislance" producer has been well donior.strar,ed in the Ayrshire cow, Sir Robert't Maddalena, in Jvancffitei C'ounty, Fe.nnyslvania, whose I5th tirthday has just been celebfated. Slit has C, 4821b. butter-fat to her credit and it still a heavy producer, having given 4421b. butterfat in her last test. Another Ayrshire cow, Relief Lucy ('mp.) at 13 years of age, has jus* completed a 365-day record of 17, 1961b. milk and 6501b. butter-fat in her 11th laetatlon period. She has produced a total of 134,7211b., of milk, 5,1201b. butter-fat in 3,620 days, or an average of 35lbs. per day for every day that she was milking. An interesting fact in connection with the records is that she was milked only three times daily for 276 days, in parts of three lactations, when heavy production made it necessary, and that all the remainder of the time she was on two milkings daily.
