CHILD CRIPPLES

Vocational Training in England ASTONISHING RESULTS Much infonnation upon the aoope in [England and Scotland of vocational jtraining for cripples has been brought "back to New Zealand by Mr T. Lamont, of Devonport, who arrived ;by the Wanganella from Sydney, after ;spending more than a year at Home. !He brought with him some exquisitely •wrought artificial flowers made by an ;English girl, and he said he thought that when some of the patients at the ,Wilson Home saw the flowers they should be encouraged to emulate the .example set, states the Auckland ■Herald. Mr Lamont intends placing before |the Auckland branch of the New Zeailand Crippled Children 's Society, all the data he collected. He said, on Jarrival that the work of Bome of the 'girls at John Groom's Crippleage at (Edgware, just outside London, was little short of amazing. Some wero iable to earn sufficient to maintain themtselves at the home, and with some jmoney to spare; the majority, when ithey Teached a certain stage in their 'training, were able to contnbute to (their maintenance. • At another school, situated some [miles away at Brockley Hill, over 300 lcripplied boys were taught tailoring, 'boot repairing, handicrafts, orchard jwork and anything which would havo ja practical application when they left '.the home to make their own way in .the world. Like its counterpart at Edgware, the home training had met with much success. , Mr Lamont said that after what he saw in England and Scotland he •thought the future held hope and enr 'couragement for crippled children patients at the Wilson Home, and that a period of training in some useful oecupation should enable them to emergo as capable workers, well able to sup, nort themselves.
