CoIIision with Shunting Engine ONLY ONE PASSENGER HURT

AUCKLAND, Last Night. ' j When the engine of a shunting trais ioollided with the rear of a passengei [bus at a level crossing in Captais Springs road, Te Papapa, this aftemoor only one of the eight passengers in tht bus suffered injury. About seven feel I of the rear of the bus was toru off and Mr. Edward Bull, of Devonport, wai fiung oufc. on to the roadway, receiving cuts and abrasions to his head and face Driven by Mr. J. P. Maiden and owned by the Auckland Suburban Buj Company, Ltd., the bus was travelling to Te Papapa from the city. All th« passengers except 5ilr. Bull were seated near the front of the vehicle. As it was | nearly three-quarters of the way across the railway crossing it was struck by the engine of a shunting train running from Onehunga to Penrose. The bus tilted over at an acute angle but xighted itself on its wheels immediately aftei the impact. The portion of the bus which was ripped from the bodywork almost wrapped itself around a small motor-car parked near the crossing. The railway engine driven by Mr. E. Heap was not damaged, making it pos£ible for the service to be maintained without delay to later trains. The crossing at which the mishap .oecurred is the middle one of three situated within close proximity. It is parjtially obscured to traffic travelling toward Te Papapa. It has been the scene of two previous accidents within the past two years, while there have been several narrow escapes. ^ x
