COMPLAINT TO COUNCIL
Improvement of TutiraPohukura Road Charges of brokeu promises which were resented were made by a deputation yesterday which met the Hawke's Bay County Council yesterday, when they asked that the Pohukura-Tutira road should be put in order. They complained that the road, which had beeome ploughed up like a cattle yard, vras like driviug up the bed of a creek to travel over. To travel 12 miles toorc an liour and a-half. Mr S. Bennett, niember for the riding, said that £792 had been spent on the road since the earthquake. This was more than tlie returns that the council received. He admitted the road was in a bad condition but to do anything until the timber mill had finished w6uld only be throwing money away. The deputation asked that the council should include the road in the first group of back-country roads to receive attention. Mr C. C. Smith said that a good case had been made, and that application should be made to the Government to effect an improvement. The chairman, Mr F. B. Logan, said that it was nnfair to suggest that the council had made promises which it had failed to redeem. Money had been spent on the road to advantage.
