"When in Rome. ..." Two old ladies were crossing Ru.ar taniwha street, Waipukurau, over oue of the newly-painted grid-iron patterns yesterday, and of course the motoi traffic stopped to allow their passage. One of the ladies looked lirst at the stopped cars and then at her friend, and said; "Well, that's nice." Her friend at once queried: "Why, don't they do that in London, my dear?' "Oh, no, but the London policeman; helps you across, and he does it very very; but this is much better, the cars just etop for us." At this the London lady smiled at ,the car drivers and passed over the crossing. R.S.A. Combined Picnic. A meeting of delegates from the following R.S.A. branches was held at Waipawa yesterday: — Dannevirke, Taradale, Takapau, Waipawa, Hastings and Wa'pukurau. The object was to consider whether a grand picnic should be held early next year. One had been planned for early this year, but after much work had been done it had to be abandoned through the infantile paralysis outbreak. The meeting, over whieb Mr H. Limbrick presided, was in favour of the picnic, and February 6 was decided upon as the date. Mr F. Adeane was appointed secretary of th!> organising committee. Though delegates from the Napier and Woodville branches were not present, apologies were reeeived from them and doubtless. they will support the picnic.
