CHILDREN'S PARTY

Waipawa Institute 's Enjoyable Afternoon (From Our Own Correspondent.) WAIPAWA, Last Night. The annual children 's party organised by the Waipawa Women's Institute was held yesterday afternoon in grounds kindly lent by the president, Miss D. Jull, there being a very large attendance of members and children and a most deli^htful afternoon being sxient by everyone. A short business meeting was held prior to the commencement of the f estivities. A letter was received from the Wakarara Institute thanking the Waipawa members for assistance on the occasion of thcir birthday meeting. Miss Jiull reported that she had forwarded l'un-ds to Seaview (England) for the purchase by them of a New Zealand tree. The matter of holding a beach picnie and shop at Pourerere was discussed, and January 20 selected as a tentative date. Members who are desirous of attending were requested to hand in their names, and also the names of all children who wished to go. A beautiful box. of chocolates pre-' sented by Mrs F. Limbrick for com--petition was won by Mrs H. T. Limbrick, who has passed tlie same back to the committee for further selection. The competition yielded a sum of £3 2/- for the funds. The remainder of the afternoon was devoted to entertainment for the children with games and competitions. They were also provided with ice-creams (instikite), soft drinks (Miss Jull), and a bag of sweets each (Mrs J. F. Logan). Prizes and donations for the party were also received from Mrs Pepperell, Mrs Preston, Mrs Thompson and Mrs Towers. Competitions were won by Ivan Limbrick and Dawn Hooper (putti:»g tail on pig), and Jim McDoriald and J. Collett (dart throwing). Members also provided a fine collection of gifts for the Children 's Homes. A delightful afternoon tea was sc-rved by the* hostesses, Mesdames Hutchings and Murray, assisted by several members of the committee.
