Mr. John Ross Sloan

The death occurred suddenly on Saturday on the Kia Toa Bowliug Club's green of Mr Johu Ross Sloan, manager for HaAvke's Bay of Wilson aud Cauham, Ltd., at the age of 44. Mr Sloan had been playing bowls at the Kia Toa Bowling Club's green, and when he left the green during an interval in tlie play he -was overeoine by a sudden seizure and died almost at once. The late Mr Sloan was born at Wellington where his father, the late Mr Robert Sloan, was engaged in business. He came to Hivstings 18 years ago, and during his business career, gained for himself a large number of friends. He was well-known throughout the province, and also :n the Wairarapa, Manawatu, and Taranaki. During the war Mr Sloan served with the Wellington Mounted Rifles, twelfth reinforcement. He Avas an enthusiastic bowler, and ii was mainly due to his efforts that the National Service BoavIing Club, of wliich he has been president since its inauguration, and in one of whose teains he was represented on Saturday. was formed. Another interest held by the late Mr Sloa'n was in the Hawke's Bay Children 's Homes, for which he was a keen worker. He leaves & wife and six children, three sous and three daugliters.
