TURN TABLES ON HASTINGS Mat O'Brien Savcs Day for United RUGBY AGAIN WIN An outright win by Technical . Old Boys after being behind on the first innings; the continued success of Rugby; and a brilliant matchwinning partnersliip by Mat 0,'Brien and Proctor for TJnited were the main features of the concluding day's play of the fourth series of games in the ccmhined Hastings-Napier senior grade cricket competition on Saturday afternoon. Tech scored the only outright win of the series, the other two matchea being decided on the iirst innings count and are now leading the iield by two championship points. Technical further achieved prominence in that they eom piled the highest score of the season on a Hastings wicket. After batting all the iirst afternoon in their niatch with Napier Old Boys, Rugby brought their overnight score of 169 for nine wickets up to 183 ano then dismissed Old Boys 76 and 65 for eight wickets, to win on the first innings by 107 runs. * United Tesumed their reply to Hastings H.S.O.B. 's 132 and raised the score from ?2 for seven wickets to 146, M. O'Brien scoring 96. Old Boys were dismissed a second time for 109 and though United made a bid for an outright win they had to be satisfied with three points by 14 runs on the iirst innings. After being 27 runs behind on the iirst innings Technical Old Boys made 150 for eight wickets and declared. They then dismissed Hastings for 69 runs to secure an outright win by 63 runs. TECHNICAL v. HASTINGS On the openiug day Hastings made 136 and, Technical Old Boyp 103 and at stumps had lost one wicket for no runs. Continuing Old Boys raised the tally to 150 for eight wickets wlfen the innings was closed. Requiring 124 for an outright win Hastings were dismissed for less than half tliis iiguro, the game ending with the side being dismissed for 60. Scores: — TECHNICAL O.B. UNITED v. HASTINGS H.S.O.B. United beat Hastings H.S.O.B. by 14 runs on the first innings. Hastings made 132 in their first innings on the first day, but only reached -109 in the secoDd. NAPIER H.S.O.B. One innings sufiiced Eugby to pile up enough runs to beat Napier H.S.O.B. They carried the overnight score to 183, Beuth scoring 85. N.H.S'.O.B. made only 76 in the first strike, Beuth taking six clieap wickets for 28. Mahura. — Batting first Mahora made 52 (S. Carrington 13, S. Lowe 11, McFarlane 11; Wilkins six for 19, Taylor three for 17). Eruitworkera replied with 95 (Patterson 32 not out, Heenan 13; Trumper five for 18). Mahora were then dismissed for 37 (D. Carrington 12, Keake five for 14, Wilkins four for 19). Fruitworkmrs gained a four point win by an innings and seven runs. Havelock North v. Hastings High School 'A. — First use of the wicket netted the Villagers 140 (Whitehead 58, J. Davis 24, Stratton 19; Hill six for 12) and School replied with 119 (McDowell 34, L. Dyer 26, Thom 20; Pankfiurst six for 19, Jones three for 44). Havelock North gained a three point win on the first innings. Otane v. Hastings H.S.O.B. — Winning the toss Otane went in first to niake 125 (Cullen 41, Drinkrow 15, Spargo 11, Pearce 11; Toothill seven for 63) and Old Boys in reply made 115 (Eippard 23, Turnbull 22, Toothill 19, Satcheli 16; Drinkrow eight for 49)^ Otane gained a three point win on the first innings by 10 runs. NAPIER JUNIOR A. Scinde scored an outright wrn over Napier High School. Scinde 's first innings yielded 199, and High School "s 160 (Cummins 67, Tringham; 39 Campbell four for 47). In the second innings Scinde made 68 (Moss 23 and E. Greaney 13; Deane seven wickets for 32).. High School, requiring 108 to win, wero all out for 51 (Tringham 19 not { out). H.S.O.B. gained a tlireo point wm over United A. In reply to H.S.O.B 's first innings total of 239 United mado 131 (Cross 16, Wilson 17, Olliver 29, Hatch not out 24, Stevens 30). In the second innings United made 176 (Hatch 63 not out, Cross 28, Wilson 17, Olliver 14, Stevens 14 aml Bell 30; Barlow four wickets for 50). At stumps H.S. O.B. in the second innings had lost two wickets for 44 (Douglas 25, Galbraith 12 not out). Technical Old Boys won outright from Harbour Board. The latter vi their first innings made 69 and Technical 109 (Rumpler four for 35 and Hay den four for 40). Harbour Board in the second innings were all out for 53. Tecn made the necessary runs to win for the loss of two wickets.
JUhfLOR B Ahuriri secured a three-point wiri over Technical Old Boys B. in the first innings Ahuriri made 120 (Nichol 44, .leffery 26, Bishop 14 not out and Bradbury 13; Vercoe took seven wickets for 46). Technical's reply was 70 (E. Wijg making 31 and 11. Wiig not out 12; Kavanagh four wickets for 14). • Taradale gained a comfortable first innings win over United B. United 's first innings realised 124 (Vercoe 40, Wylie 25, Wolstenholme 25 and Hunter 33; Cooper six wickets for 36). Taradale declared with nine wickets down for 169 (F. Collinge 63, McGrath 27, Causton 25, W. Ftanford 14 and G. Blanford 13. Hunter took five wickets for 62). j Williams and Kettl® easily beat High '
School. W. and K. in the first innings mado 146 (P. Wilson 47, D. Jones 33, F. McKinnon 13 and H. Tait 12 not out; McLean five wickets for 43). School were all out for 48 (Dann 13; Taite five for 19 and Jones four for 21).
