HIRE-PURCHASE ABUSES

(British Offieial Wireless.)

Bill Introduced in House of Commons

(E ceived 11, 12.30 p.m.) EUGBY, Dec. 10. Three private members' Bills were read a second timo without opposition in the House of Commons and received the blessing of the Government spokesman. The most important one, which was introduced by Miss Ellen Wilkinson, deals with abuses of the systern. of hire-purchase. Miss Wilkinson made it clear that the Bill was not aimed against hirepurchase but only against unscripulous exploitatf of the systern, which had become a grave social evil. She stated that various trade interests had co-operated in the framing of the proposals. The Bill deals with agreements involving up to £50 for one article or £100 in any other case, and provides that such agreements must contain a statement of tho cash price as well as of the hire-purchase price. Another of the Bills would give power to local autho ities to close certain streets to traffic at certain hours for use as children's playgrouuds in congested districts. I II !■ . ■ I I 4
