English Expert To Visit Dominion Dr. Joiin Hammond, of Cambridge University, has accepted an invitation to visit New Zealand fo investigate for the newly-established Animal Research Bureau of the Department of Scientific and lndustrial iteseareh a number of aspects of animal produo tion, according to the Minister in cliarge of the department, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan. Dr. Hammond, who will arrive in Auckland on. January 10, jvill spend approximately eight weeks in New Zealand, after which he will visit Australia to make investigations for the Council for Scientific and lndustrial Research. "Dr. Hammond has an outstanding record as an animal physiologist, particularly in the pliysiology of reproduction and tlie factors infiuencing tbe carcase quality of slieep, beef cattle, and pigs," Mr. Sullivan said. "In the latter lie has given valuable ai*sistance in the examination. of and the preparation of reports ou trial shipments of New Zealand frozen porkers at Smithfield. "Dr. Hammond is, however, niore than a physiologist," Mr. Sullivan added. "He has a sound understanding of general farming practice, and in his research work he successl'ully combines the spheres of heredity, pliysiology, and nutrition. During his visit he will make a comprehensive tour of the farming districts and research institutions, and be will give a number of demonstrations and lectures."
