HASTINGS WEST SCHOOL

The monthly meeting of the Hasting West School Committee was held at the school last night. Present: Messrs. Mackersey (chairman), Driller (headmaster), Westerman, . Trumper, Harvey, atthews, Miller and Tx-eacher. Leave of absence was granted Messrs. Britteu and Colello. The headmaster reported the roil number was 346. A letter .was received from the Hawke's Bay Education Board notifying the appointment of Miss Elie to the staff as from February next, the school being Bentitled to an extra teacher, having gone up a grade. It was deeided to obtain a case for the school banner and also to obtain two extension blackboards for two class-rooms. A sub-committee jvas appointed to go into the question of further improvements to the grounds. The headmaster reported on the works being carried out at present by the Public Works Department and suggestions made wer© approved. An area in front of the school is being laid down in concrete and will provide for hard tennis eourts and basketball courts, and shingle and. lime sand removed from this area has been used .to lay down a roadway to Oliphant road.
